Great progress with new Club food outlet

During the freezing conditions of January a plucky band of volunteers endured the strong winds and heavy rains to lay a polymer rubber roof membrane on the flat roof of the new Food Hut to make the building watertight prior to ceasing work during the second lockdown. It was a good job that they had done so or a great deal of the internal work and materials would have been spoiled if the winter weather had taken hold.

Chairman Robert Lewis ensured that safe working practices were followed and in late Spring the volunteers resumed their tasks to continue with the internal works.  Architect Ken Morgan is amongst those volunteers and he commented that without the sponsorship of local firms G D Harries, Hywel Griffiths, D M Griffiths and Steve Edwards  the Rugby Club could never have made such rapid and efficient progress.

GD Harries supplied the concrete to support the relocated Steel stairs and below them a grease interceptor was installed, kindly donated by Redford  and Rosehill Caravan Parks owned by Sarah Gately of Princes Gate. The volunteers aged from 15 years up to 74 years are seen standing in front of the relocated steels stairs which gain access to the Grandstand.

Internally, Dan Griffiths sponsored  his labour to lay the cement screed materials kindly donated by G D Harries. Once that had hardened off local Builder Steve Edwards very kindly provided two plasterers and a labourer to skim the large open plan ceiling with Gypsum plaster.

The treasurer John Llewellyn said: “the RFC committee is extremely grateful to this superb group who have willingly given up their spare time to work regularly on the project and also for the excellent support received from the local suppliers and trades. We could never have achieved such a splendid building without their help”.

Committee man Macphee, known as the gangmaster is continuing to recruit volunteer labour and Ken Morgan is encouraging local supporters of the club to help raise financial donations to secure the next phase of the project which is the fitting out the bar, Kitchen and the floor furnishings.
